From a Mother’s Prayer to a Family Business

On March 15, 2021, Lorrayne opened Home Sweet Home Cooking, a family-owned restaurant in Galloway, New Jersey. Inspired by her faith and love of cooking, she created a welcoming place where guests could enjoy Southern-style home cooking and feel like family.

Today, Lorrayne is also attending Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, where she is expected to earn her degree in February 2027. As a mother, business owner, and student, she continues to show what faith, determination, and hard work can accomplish.

Her son, John, plays an active role in the restaurant welcoming customers, preparing meals, and helping with daily operations. His interest in culinary arts gives them another meaningful way to grow together and build their future.

The child who once weighed only one pound is now a college student, a valued member of the family business, and a young man pursuing his own dreams.

The Dynamic Duo: Then and Now

The name first given to Lorrayne and John during their hospital journey now represents more than survival. Once united in facing uncertainty, they are now united in building a future. Their story reflects the strength of a mother-and-son bond, the power of perseverance, and the faith that carried them through difficult times. John’s journey reminds us that a challenging beginning does not determine a person’s destiny.

Through Home Sweet Home Cooking, Lorrayne and John serve their community with good food, kindness, and hospitality while encouraging other families never to lose hope. “Twenty years ago, I prayed for my son to have a future. Today, by the grace of God, we’re building one together.” Their story began with a one-pound miracle, but it continues through every meal prepared, every customer welcomed, and every dream pursued.

To God be all the glory.

“It’s always a pleasure to serve you, and thank you for stopping by Home Sweet Home, where you’re always welcome!”
